Objective:
To support the project team by developing, monitoring, and controlling project schedules, ensuring project execution aligns with contract timelines, cost constraints, and scope requirements. The Planning Engineer will interface with Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning, and Project Management to ensure efficient and timely project delivery, using advanced planning tools and techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Project Schedule Development:
- Prepare the integrated EPC baseline schedule in accordance with contractual milestones and scope of work.
- Breakdown of scope into Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Activity Breakdown Structure (ABS) per project requirements.
- Develop Level 1 (Executive), Level 2 (Master), Level 3 (Detailed Execution), and Level 4 (Discipline/Subcontractor-Level) schedules.
- Use Primavera P6 (mandatory) to prepare the full project schedule.
- Define critical path, lead/lag durations, resource-loaded activities, and inter-discipline logic links.
2. Progress Measurement & Reporting:
- Monitor physical progress and update the project schedule on a weekly and monthly basis.
- Apply Earned Value Management (EVM) techniques to track schedule performance.
- Prepare and present weekly/monthly progress reports, including:
- S-curves (Planned vs Actual)
- Look-ahead schedules (1-week / 3-week / 6-week)
- Resource histograms
- Critical path deviation analysis
- Evaluate schedule impact of site constraints, procurement delays, change orders, or engineering revisions.
3. Coordination & Communication:
- Coordinate with:
- Engineering Team for document deliverables and IFC (Issued for Construction) drawings.
- Procurement Team for material delivery timelines, equipment vendor coordination, and procurement delays.
- Construction Team for site activity sequencing, resource availability, and site constraints.
- Subcontractors to align their schedules and work plans with the master plan.
- Lead planning-related discussions in progress review meetings with clients, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
4. Delay Analysis & Mitigation:
- Identify potential or actual delays and conduct forensic delay analysis (prospective and retrospective).
- Recommend recovery plans and resequencing of works to minimize schedule slippages.
- Maintain a Delay Register and update with mitigation measures, responsible parties, and expected outcomes.
5. Change Management:
- Evaluate time impact of variation orders (VOs) and Extension of Time (EOT) claims.
- Prepare Time Impact Analysis (TIA) using what-if scenarios in Primavera P6.
- Coordinate with the commercial/contracts team for schedule-related claim justifications.
6. Tools and Software Expertise:
- Primavera P6 Advanced proficiency (mandatory)
- Microsoft Project Basic to Intermediate
- Microsoft Excel (Advanced) Pivot tables, charts, conditional formatting
- Power BI (optional) for dashboard preparation and analytics
- AutoCAD/Navisworks (optional) for schedule integration with 3D models (4D Planning)
7. Compliance and Quality:
- Ensure planning deliverables meet company, client, and contractual requirements.
- Prepare and update Planning Procedures, Progress Measurement Systems (PMS), and Planning Method Statements as per ADNOC QAQC standards.
- Conduct schedule risk assessments (qualitative and/or quantitative using Monte Carlo simulation if applicable).
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering.
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in Planning and Project Control on large EPC projects (Oil & Gas, Petrochemical Industrial).
- Strong exposure to EPC contract
- In-depth understanding of project lifecycle phases from FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, mechanical completion to commissioning & handover.
Certifications (Preferred):
- PMI-SP (Project Management Institute Scheduling Professional)
- PSP (Planning & Scheduling Professional AACEI)
- Primavera P6 Certification from Oracle
Key Skills:
- Excellent scheduling and forecasting skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset
- Familiarity with contract terms (FIDIC, Lump Sum Turnkey, Reimbursable, etc.)
- Capable of handling multiple interfaces and maintaining composure under pressure
- Strong written and verbal communication, including reporting to senior management and clients
Working Conditions:
- Site-based role; willing to work in remote, industrial project locations
- Flexibility to work extended hours and during critical project phases
- Regular interfacing with subcontractors, client teams, and global engineering offices
