The German University in Cairo invites applications for vacancies to be filled effective September 2026.
The Faculty of Applied Science and Arts enrolls 1,250 students in three design majors: Graphic Design, Product Design and Media Design. GUC (Cairo Campus) invites highly qualified and motivated candidates to fill the following vacancy in the Department of Product Design. Successful candidates will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching.
Responsibilities:
The position will focus on teaching the many physical aspects of design for mobility. Issues of movement of people, connection to places, and accessibility are central to the mobility design course. The candidate should be able to incorporate the latest technological developments and insights from the human sciences to develop mobility solutions in the broadest sense and to offer a wider range of products to support the mobility systems of local and international markets. The candidate should encourage independent design thinking to create design concepts that consider factors such as user, environment, ergonomics and social values. The candidate will actively promote graduate and undergraduate research and attract third party funded projects in any chosen areas of interest in design.
Experience/Skills:
• Knowledge of the design principles of industrial products, including current and future approaches within the field of industrial design.
• Broad and in-depth knowledge of industrial design and manufacturing processes, including digital sketching and conceptualization.
• Strong ability to integrate aspects of usability and aesthetics into the design of transportation for
goods and/or people.
• Ability to incorporate technical knowledge and the latest techniques, technologies and materials in the mobility sector.
• Curiosity to expand perceptions within the design discipline to create a foundation for design-
oriented action and thinking.
• Strong commitment to progressive design education principles regarding self-directed and r
responsible design study.
• Understanding of the implications of design practice within social, cultural, economic, scientific or
technological contexts.
• Ability to work well with colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds, professional experiences,
and aesthetic sensibilities.
• Ability to structure and define project goals to promote and motivate positive experiences.
• Excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills in English, the language of instruction.
• Good management skills, including the ability to meet deadlines, communicate effectively, and
motivate.
• An interest in working collaboratively within the GUC and with external partners to develop joint
projects.
