Job Description

Purpose:

The job holder will lead the design, execution, and handover of mechanical systems, e.g. HVAC, plumbing, and firefighting, for AUC buildings, parking lots, and service areas. This role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to high-quality standards, collaborating closely with maintenance and University architect teams.

Responsibilities:

Project Management:

  • Manage day-to-day design and implementation of MEP projects, all scales, according to schedules

Design and Review:

  • Direct in-house mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design, manage external consultants, and ensure designs meet codes, local or international, and sustainability standards, LEED or EDGE
  • Conduct technical reviews of all MEP documentation

Cost Estimating:

  • Develop MEP project cost estimates aligned with budgets and designs

Stakeholder Management:

  • Coordinate with project managers, Campus Planning Office, maintenance engineers, consultants, and contractors, securing approvals and ensuring alignment

Vendor Management:

  • Support qualification and selection of MEP consultants and contractors, overseeing bidding and technical evaluation

Commissioning and Handover:

  • Direct commissioning and technical handover to maintenance and operations, ensuring documentation and readiness

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Engage with maintenance, safety, security, and IT or AV teams for comprehensive project delivery

General Support:

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering or project management is a plus

Experience:

  • Minimum 12 years of total experience, with at least eight years in relevant MEP project roles
  • Proven experience in the design of MEP systems, with emphasis on HVAC solutions
  • Strong track record in installation supervision, commissioning, and field execution of MEP systems

Skills:

  • Leadership and Decision-Making: Demonstrated ability to lead project teams, drive strategic thinking, manage change, and make sound decisions
  • Project Management Expertise: Solid knowledge of project methodologies, Agile or Waterfall, cost and risk management, resource planning, and quality assurance
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong verbal and written communication, stakeholder management, negotiation, conflict resolution, and team leadership
  • Business Acumen: Clear understanding of how projects align with broader institutional goals and operational priorities
  • Software and day-to-day work skills: good working knowledge of AutoCAD, BIM, and other relevant tools, e.g., word, excel, and others
  • Ability to read and interpret typical MEP design tools such as HAP, eQuest, and others
  • Proficiency in English reading and writing is a must
