Job Description

The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for supporting Modupay's tax compliance activities by preparing tax returns, assisting in tax calculations, and ensuring compliance with Egyptian tax regulations. Contributes to maintaining accurate tax records, supporting tax audits, and coordinating with internal departments and external advisors to ensure timely and accurate tax reporting. Responsible for the accurate and timely preparation and filing of all tax returns (Corporate Income Tax, VAT, WHT, Stamp Duty, etc.), managing tax audits, and identifying tax planning opportunities to optimize the company's tax position.

Responsibilities:

  • Tax Compliance: Prepare and file all periodic tax returns accurately and on time, including monthly VAT, withholding tax (WHT), stamp duty, and annual corporate income tax (CIT) returns. Ensure compliance with Egyptian Tax Authority regulations and those of other jurisdictions where Modupay operates.
  • Tax Audit Management: Lead and manage tax audits initiated by the Tax Authority. Prepare all required documentation, respond to inquiries, and work closely with external tax consultants to defend Modupay's tax positions and minimize potential exposures.
  • Tax Accounting & Reporting: Assist in the calculation and booking of monthly tax provisions and accruals. Prepare tax-related notes for the financial statements in accordance with Egyptian Accounting Standards (EAS) and IFRS. Support the month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Tax Research & Advisory: Stay up to date with changes in tax laws, regulations, and precedents that may impact the Fintech industry. Conduct research on specific tax issues related to new products (e.g., digital wallets, payment processing fees) and provide clear, actionable advice to management.
  • Tax Planning: Identify and implement opportunities for tax optimization and savings, ensuring all strategies are compliant with the law. Support the business in structuring transactions and contracts in a tax-efficient manner.
  • Transfer Pricing: work with the accounting teams to implement the Transfer pricing policy and ensure adherence to its terms across all transactions within all group subsidiaries.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Liaise with external tax consultants, auditors, and advisors to ensure comprehensive tax support. Coordinate with internal finance and accounting teams to gather necessary data and ensure tax considerations are integrated into business processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in commerce (Accounting / Tax Department) or a related field.
  • Professional tax diploma or certificate (e.g., from the Egyptian Tax Society) is highly preferred
  • English: Good command (spoken and written) for reading tax treaties, IFRS standards, and communicating with international stakeholders/auditors)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in tax accounting and compliance, preferably within a Big 4 audit firm or the tax department of large Egyptian companies, or multinational corporations
  • Egyptian Tax Expertise: Deep, hands-on knowledge of Egyptian Corporate Tax, VAT, WHT, and Stamp Duty laws and regulations. Experience using Egyptian Tax Authority electronic filing systems (e-invoice / e-receipt systems is a plus).
  • Industry Knowledge: Understanding of the tax implications of manufacturing industries, financial services, digital payments, and cross-border transactions is a significant advantage.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret complex tax laws and apply them to business scenarios.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in tax filings and avoid penalties.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills to explain complex tax matters clearly to non-tax professionals and to represent the company during tax audits.
  • Integrity: Highest level of integrity and ethical standards in dealing with confidential financial and tax information.
  • ERP: Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics).
  • Financial Statements: Very good understanding of financial statements and accounting principles.
