Job Description

The Site Engineer plays a crucial technical and supervisory role in construction projects by ensuring accurate surveying, setting out, and implementation of building designs on site. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, organization, and leadership to oversee the smooth execution of works while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the main technical adviser on site for subcontractors, craftsmen, and operatives.
  • Perform site surveying, setting out, and leveling to translate design plans into accurate site locations.
  • Review and verify plans, drawings, and quantities for accuracy and ensure calculations are correct.
  • Ensure that all materials and workmanship meet project specifications and quality standards.
  • Manage the selection, requisition, and cost-effective procurement of materials.
  • Monitor and interpret contract design documents supplied by clients or architects.
  • Liaise with consultants, subcontractors, supervisors, planners, quantity surveyors, and the site workforce to coordinate project activities.
  • Collaborate with local authorities as required to ensure adherence to construction regulations and by-laws.
  • Communicate project progress to clients and their representatives through regular meetings and reports.
  • Manage day-to-day site operations, including supervising labor forces and subcontractors.
  • Plan and organize site plant and facilities to meet project deadlines efficiently.
  • Oversee quality control processes and enforce health and safety regulations on site.
  • Prepare and submit necessary reports related to site progress and issues.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience as a Site Engineer or in a similar construction role.
  • Strong knowledge of surveying methods, site setting out, and construction processes.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
  • Familiarity with relevant local building codes, health and safety regulations, and quality standards.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with teams, clients, and authorities.
  • Experience in contract document management and cost control.
  • Ability to lead and supervise site teams effectively.
  • Competent with construction software tools such as AutoCAD, MS Project, or similar is an advantage.
  • Attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
