Test Equipment Development Systems Engineer

LevelUp is supporting a leading aerospace and defence programme in Abu Dhabi and is looking to engage an experienced Test Equipment Development Systems Engineer to join a highly technical engineering environment focused on UAV platforms and safetycritical systems.
This is a senior engineering role where you will design, build, and maintain advanced test equipment used to validate complex systems prior to deployment.
About the Role
You will be responsible for the design, development, automation, validation, and maintenance of test equipment used to verify the performance and functionality of UAV systems and subsystems. This includes working with Automated Test Equipment (ATE), HardwareintheLoop (HIL) environments, test benches, and diagnostic tools.
The role plays a critical part in ensuring system reliability, safety, and compliance with aerospace and defence standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop custom test equipment (hardware & software) for avionics, electrical, mechanical, and software subsystems
- Define technical requirements for ATE, simulation rigs, and integration benches
- Develop and maintain automated test scripts using tools such as Python, LabVIEW, or MATLAB
- Integrate test equipment with data acquisition, telemetry, and HIL systems
- Support verification & validation (V&V) activities ensuring accuracy and repeatability
- Develop and manage calibration and maintenance plans for test systems
- Support component, subsystem, and platformlevel testing activities
- Produce clear technical documentation including test procedures, reports, and user manuals
Required Experience & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, or Systems Engineering
- 10+ years experience in aerospace, defence, or highreliability engineering environments
- Strong background in test equipment development (ATE, HIL, test benches)
- Experience with test automation and scripting (Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, C/C++)
- Knowledge of aerospace/defence communication protocols (e.g. MILSTD1553, ARINC, CAN, Ethernet)
- Exposure to safetycritical systems testing and hardwaresoftware integration
- Strong documentation and systemsthinking skills
Nice to Have
- UAV or flightcritical systems experience
- Familiarity with systems engineering tools and requirements traceability
- LabVIEW or systems engineering certifications
- Experience with electronics design, PCB debugging, or instrumentation calibration
Additional Information
- Role based in Abu Dhabi, UAE
- Candidates must be eligible for UAE security clearance
- Willingness to relocate and travel as required
- English fluency required (Arabic is a plus)
