Job Description :
The Travel Risk Manager for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) helps protect Amazon employees who travel for work by developing and implementing programs, standards, and solutions that mitigate health, safety, and security risk across a complex region. Covering travel across 80 countries, this role leads travel risk management in an environment with elevated exposure to crime, political unrest, road safety issues, medical challenges, natural disasters, and other serious disruptions. The region also presents a high degree of complexity, with frequent crises, medical hospitalizations, and other serious traveler incidents that require strong judgment and steady execution.
This role stands out because of its scale, complexity, and impact across the enterprise. The Travel Risk Manager improves programs and standards, identifies risk exposure and emerging trends, leads traveler accountability during crises, and helps the business make informed decisions about travel in higher-risk environments. The role also serves as a trusted advisor to cross-functional stakeholders, using data and judgment to guide decisions related to travel restrictions, evacuations, escalations, and broader traveler safety.
The right candidate will be calm under pressure, empathetic with travelers in stressful situations, and comfortable making high-impact decisions independently. This is a role for someone who can balance strategic program development with direct traveler support and build scalable mechanisms that strengthen traveler safety across the enterprise
Key job responsibilities
-Lead travel risk management efforts across the EMEA region by developing and implementing strategies that mitigate health, safety, and security risk to business travelers.
-Design and improve programs, standards, and scalable solutions that strengthen traveler support and help the program operate effectively at enterprise scale.
-Identify travel risk exposure, monitor emerging risk trends, and lead traveler accountability efforts during crises and other disruptive events.
-Provide expert guidance on travel to complex environments, including locations affected by unrest, conflict, remoteness, or limited medical infrastructure.
-Serve as a trusted advisor to cross-functional stakeholders by making data-driven recommendations and influencing decisions related to travel restrictions, evacuations, and escalations.
-Support travelers experiencing medical, security, and crisis-related incidents, including hospitalization, crime, social unrest, and other serious events.
-Build strong partnerships with internal stakeholders and external providers, including travel partners, transportation providers, hotels, airlines, and embassies.
-Make high-judgment decisions independently and represent the global program during escalations when regional coverage requires it.
A day in the life
This role balances strategic program development with direct operational support. In a typical week, the Travel Risk Manager may review traveler cases, advise on travel to higher-risk locations, respond to medical or security escalations, support crisis calls and traveler accountability efforts, and work with partners to strengthen standards, training, and scalable mechanisms. The pace can shift quickly, requiring the ability to move from long-term projects to urgent traveler issues with little notice. Success in this role requires sound judgment, empathy, and comfort operating in fast-moving situations with incomplete information.
